About the course
This course builds confidence to act when a child is injured or suddenly ill. Short theory is mixed with lots of hands-on practice on infant and child manikins. You’ll learn step-by-step how to call 112, give first aid and decide when to seek medical care.
What you’ll learn
- Pediatric CPR: infants and older children – 5 rescue breaths, compressions, correct rate/depth and safety
- Choking: back blows & chest thrusts for infants; back blows & abdominal thrusts for older children
- Bleeding & wound care: direct pressure, dressings and elevation
- Burns & scalds: cooling, covering and when to seek care
- Falls & head injuries: signs of concussion, observation and when to call
- Poisoning/ingestion: medicines, chemicals, plants – advice and contacting the Poison Information Centre
- Allergy/anaphylaxis: recognise symptoms, how to use an adrenaline auto-injector
- Seizures & fever seizures: make the scene safe and what to do afterwards
- Dehydration, asthma, diabetes (low blood sugar): recognition and first-aid actions
- Recovery position and when to seek care
After the course
- You can give first aid to children and manage choking
- You can perform Pediatric CPR on infants and older children
- You know when to seek care/call 112 and how to act calmly

Ideal for anyone caring for or working with children: parents, educators, babysitters, leaders, school staff and volunteers.
Prerequisites & materials
No prior knowledge required. The instructor brings infant and child manikins, first-aid materials and (if needed) a training AED with child mode.
